Kenny the "b" is next to the "n" on the bottom row of the keypad. I might just as well join the girls in upsetting you unless you send me a bottle of Christmas cheer.
Happy Christmas & hopefully a healthier family New Year
Simon
Really interesting comments. It seems that WLB is not a new phenomena but it does demonstrate that despite this we are still a long way from achieving a good balance between our work and home and still have a lot of work in helping companies to understand the benefits of WLB policies.
Thats it no more wine, no more sintilating discussions anout WLB, you three have upset me now

Puttng Europe to Work : The Case for Labour Market Reforms is a report produced by BusinessEurope and emphasises the use of flexicurity as a way of increasing employability across Europe. The report can be found at http://www.businesseurope.eu/Content/Default.asp?PageID=568&DocID=29107
The European Women's Lobby recently published a short article on Work Life Balance in four European Countries. The article gives a short synoposis of the situaton in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Germany. He's a cuddly bear!
Hope he gets embarassed, he should have thought about that second bottle of wine during the meeting.
Grandparents and child care has recieved some attention in the UK in recent years. This BBC report, "UK 'behind' on grandparent childcare provision" is a good place to start to look at some of the wider issues.
Interesting that we're told the 'UK is lagging behind other European countries', but then given little information about which countries do it well!
I think grandparents can be saving angels at times like these. Plus they get to see their grand children more, which in consequence makes for closer family ties!
Studies from Iceland where the parental leave is split into 1/3 for the mother, 1/3 for the father and 1/3 that can be used freely show that approximately 33 % of the leave is now taken by fathers. So it might work to ensure that more fathers use their right to have a leave.
I should add that The Work Foundation is a non-profit organisation working to approve the quality of working life.
Sorry ..... KP leave me an instruction book next time I pasted my comment in the wrong place, technology eh!

A formal definition in general could be:
"Work-life balance is about people having a measure of control over when, where and how they work. It is achieved when an individual's right to a fulfilled life inside and outside paid work is accepted and respected as the norm, to the mutual benefit of the individual, business and society."
(definition from The Work Foundation, www.theworkfoundation.com).

I find good neighbours are invaluable. Someone that you can rely on if you end up being 10 mins late. That way the children always have somewhere to go.
